Olga Zimmelová (1945) was born in Majdalena in southern Bohemia. In 1968 she emigrated to Switzerland, where she settled down and earned an arts education. At the time, conceptual art was big on the international art scene, and Zimmelová – like many other Czech artists who left the country at the time – found herself attracted to this new movement. Her work followed a natural conceptual course, which is characterized by her essential tendency towards openness. She does not cling to anything – in both life and art. The exhibition An Unencumbered Look at the Church of St. Lawrence uses painting, objects, and projections to present Zimmelová's unencumbered look back at the place of her birth and childhood, and other important places in her life.
