Tomáš Polcar (1973) is a leading figure of the artistic generation of the 1990s, which was a breath of fresh air on the Czech art scene. Despite his classical style, Polcar is a conceptualist who is primarily interested in the message of his art. In life and in art, he strives to preserve meaning by adding a spiritual dimension. He is no orthodox follower, but is a seeker, convinced that the spirit is expressed in many shapes and faces, and that we can freely define our relationship to it. This approach is reflected in the subjects of his various series and in his choice of stylistic approach. His works straddle the line between classical painting, sculpture, and installation art, using stylistic approaches ranging from expressionism to geometric abstraction. Besides gallery exhibitions, he is attracted to and inspired by the sacral spaces of various religious communities. He has exhibited in the Church of St. Ignatius in Chomutov, the chapel of the Louny Jewish Burial Society, the Libeň Synagogue in Prague and the Congregation of Priest Ambrose in Hradec Králové. For Klatovy's Church of St. Lawrence, Polcar has prepared an exhibition of his most important objects and paintings and sculptures made specifically for the exhibition space.
