The exhibition presents German-speaking sculptor Mary Duras, a leading representative of Czechoslovakia’s interwar art scene, and a central figure of the Prager Secession who succeeded in breaking through on the international scene. Duras exhibited at the salons of Paris, in London, The Hague, and Hamburg; she represented Czechoslovakia at the Venice Biennale on four occasions and also joined the Berliner Secession. Thanks to a collaborative effort with the National Gallery in Prague and an important loan of artworks from abroad, the gallery can now present a comprehensive look at Duras’s entire career within the context of the previously overlooked subject of women sculptors during the FirstRepublic.
