Church of St. Lawrence, 27. 7. - 31. 10. 2014
Zuzana Čížková’s final graduate work at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in 2011 was a relief inscription in sign language that can now be seen in Prague’s Smíchov district on the wall of the city’s oldest school for the hearing impaired in Holečkova Street. Čížková came up with the inscription in cooperation with hearing-impaired individuals. The inscription, which says “Life is beautiful, be happy and enjoy yourself!”, entices passers-by to try and decipher the message. We find the motif of hands and sign language in other of Čížková’s works as well, for instance on many of her paintings and sculptures. In 2005, she represented the CzechRepublic at the Salon of Independents in Paris. In 2009, she won the contemporary art prize in the “Winton Train, Inspired by Good” contest.
The exhibition in Klatovy’s Church of St. Lawrence presents paintings and sculptures on the themes of the Romantic landscape of the 21st century, hands, sign languages, and the belief in a multicultural world.
The opening reception features a body-art performance by the group “Multikultura”.
After the summer holidays, the artist will be on hand for a second time to engage in a discussion of love, faith, birth, communication, sign language, speech, body language, body art, and the soul…… all with interesting guests. The exact date and format of this get-together will be published at www.gkk.cz.
