Pavel Rudolf believes that all phenomena are clearly subject to certain laws of transformation and development. Nothing is unchanging and established once and forever. The only thing that is given is a point – but even a point can move. Everything is in motion. There also exist certain relationships and mutual interactions among phenomena.
Although Rudolf originally worked with lettrism, over the years his work took on the form of conceptual constructivism until, after 2006, he reoriented himself towards working with text or words.
Since his return to the medium of pictures in 1998, Rudolf has been incorporating aspects of linear geometric constructions into his works, combined with color. He creates grand units, structures formed by gradually drawing circles or semicircles according to a particular simple rule
In his works, Rudolf makes use of geometric shapes and structures in which every geometric shape is determined by its peaks and by the lines connecting these points – the points for the framework of a pattern. His works are the relationships between these points, made visible. The points are the defining elements of his structures. He chooses simple rules for transforming the patterns. The structures are based on a predetermined formation. The final form is determined by the use of a previously chosen binding rule.
Pavel Rudolf's work has been positively received abroad, but has yet to find a larger circle of serious followers or collectors at home.
Rudolf has been exhibiting independently since 1969. He lives and works in Brno.
