The Camino de Santiago is a unique European cultural route and one of the greatest riches shared by all Europeans. The route represents the ancient concept of pilgrimage in the true sense of the word. This audiovisual exhibition is the result of a recent journey undertaken by photographer Manuel Valcárcel and musician Alejandro Gonzáles. The historical sites captured by the photographs are a fundamental part of the memory and culture of all of mankind. The exhibition presents a dynamic and intense journey across Bulgaria, Hungary, Austria, the CzechRepublic, Slovenia, Italy, northern Spain and Galicia. While on their pilgrimage, the two artists observed the cultural traditions and religiosity of each place along the route, sometimes suppressing reality, sometimes emphasizing it while trying to capture the situations and circumstances that influence the people living along the pilgrimage route. Their aim is to highlight the modest way of life found in many places in Europe.
The exhibition has been organized by the Centre for Spanish Culture and Education in collaboration with Galerie Klatovy/Klenová as part of Days of Spanish culture in Klatovy.
