13 km westwards from Klatovy, near to the czech-german border a large ruin of an important medieval castle of Klenová is found, to which a pseudogothic chateau was built during the 19th century. A coherent urbanistic complex of residential and agricultural buildings (granary, vila, St. Felix chapel, farmhouse) grew up in the close surroundings in the second half of the 19th century. In Klenová you will find an exposition from the history of the castle and chateau and several exhibitions of top Czech and foreign art. The castle gives splendid views over the central Šumava.
Unlike other historical sights of the region Klenová is open also on Monday in July and August and during week days in April and October. The castle and chateau of Klenová is administered by the Gallery Klatovy / Klenová.
The refreshment to the visitors of Klenová is offered by the chateau restaurant, named after the most important native of Klenová, the renaissance humanist Kryštof Harant from Polžice and Bezdružice. Historical interiors provide ideal setting for wedding banquets and ceremony in the chateau Klenová, as well as for other types of social actions.
